You’ll travel from your hotel to the Itaipu Hydroelectric Plant, one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. A guided panoramic tour aboard a comfortable open-top tourist bus will take you around the second-largest hydroelectric plant on the planet. The plant sits on the Paraná River, which forms the natural border between Brazil and Paraguay, and the setting is part of what you’ll see as you move through the site.
At the Visitor Center you’ll watch a 30-minute documentary about the plant’s construction and its environmental sustainability efforts. The tour continues to a scenic lookout with impressive views of the massive dam and the powerful spillway. Weather permitting, you’ll be able to go up to the top of the dam, known as the crown, for an unobstructed view of Lake Itaipu. The visit finishes at the souvenir shop, where you can pick up a memento, before you are taken back comfortably to your hotel.
