This lovely mountain can be done with a leisurely start, time for your breakfast to be enjoyed before burning some calories, the fit and fast hiker it can be done in around 3 hours, otherwise allow 5 and half hours round trip.
If time and fitness is on our side we can easily extend this to a longer hill day.
The Cnicht is known as ‘The Welsh Matterhorn’! But only because of its shape.Cnicht in ancient English means ‘Knight’ and this peak guards the entrance to the very remote and wild Moelwynion range of hills.
This is a superb day with gentle hiking for the most part and finished with a steep but easy section to the final summit.

Our meeting point for the hike up the Cnicht, meeting in the parking area in the sleepy village of Croesor.
What's included
All of guided mountain hikes and scrambles are led by fully qualified Mountain Leaders with excellent local area knowledge and they work and live full time in the mountains of Snowdonia. Maximum ratio’s on our guided mountain hikes are 10 clients to 1 Mountain Leader.
What to bring
You will need good sturdy mountain boots to give your feet the best support and ankle protection for rocky ground. Clothing to match the forecasted weather and the time of year. Lighter weight clothing for summer and heavier weight in winter – generic type hiking trousers, base layer, fleece and waterproof shell layer, waterproof over trousers. Boot gaiters can be a fantastic idea for the wetter months and winter.
You should have a small rucksack to carry your food, water, warm hat, gloves and other personal items during the day.

Perhaps you have enjoyed some familiar local hikes on lowland hill or mountains, and now want to explore some wilder mountain areas. You have good hiking fitness and would like a gentle day out, but don’t have the confidence to go on unmarked rough tracks in an unfamiliar mountain area.
That’s where our expertise works for you. We do the work so you can enjoy your guided mountain hike. No need for you to plan routes, no need for expert navigation in poor visibility, leave that to your qualified Mountain Leader.
You do need a good general level of fitness and depending on the time of year, be ready for very mixed ground conditions, everything from wet and boggy ground to heath, heather and rocky summits.
