Moors, Whitby & The Yorkshire Steam Railway

From York, this small-group guided day trip takes you into the scenic North York Moors National Park, where you’ll have the chance to explore classic moorland scenery and visit traditional villages such as Hutton-le-Hole. Along the way you’ll see Goathland, known as a Heartbeat location and one of the places used for Harry Potter filming. A Heritage Train ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is available as an optional extra (paid locally on the day; no need to book ahead).

You’ll spend time in the seaside town of Whitby, where you can see Whitby Abbey – the site that inspired the Dracula books – and visit the Captain Cook Attractions. You may browse for Whitby Jet or Gothic fashion, sample fish and chips from the famous Magpie Café, or simply enjoy the bustling port and waterfront. As you return towards York, the route will take you through the Howardian Hills and past Castle Howard, offering more scenic views as the trip concludes.
