On this day trip from Bodhgaya you will explore two of India’s most important ancient sites, Nalanda and Rajgir. You will meet your guide at your hotel and travel to Nalanda. At the Nalanda Archaeological Museum you will see a wide collection of artefacts from the ancient university. You will also walk through the UNESCO World Heritage ruins of Nalanda University, founded in the 5th century AD, and gain insights into India’s rich educational heritage. A lunch at a local restaurant is included before you continue to Rajgir.
In Rajgir you will visit Venuvana Vihara, a monastery set among green forest, and Gridhakuta Hill, where Lord Buddha is said to have delivered important sermons. A cable car ride to the hill’s summit will offer broad views of the surrounding landscape. You will also see Saptaparni Cave, known as the site of the first Buddhist council, and visit the medicinal Hot Springs. The trip concludes with your return to Bodhgaya, after a full day of historical sites and cultural highlights.
