Darjeeling tea has worldwide recognition, and Sourenee Tea Estate sits in the picturesque Mirik Valley of the Darjeeling district in West Bengal, India. The estate’s name combines “Sour” — a local tree with some medicinal value — and “Rani”, meaning “Queen of the Valley”. On arrival you will take a guided tour of the plantation, walking through the tea gardens as your private tour guide points out the plants and explains how this region’s tea is grown.
After the plantation tour, lunch will be served at the Garden Manager’s Bungalow. Following lunch, you will visit the factory for an overview of the processing steps and then take part in a small tea tasting session to sample some of the estate’s brews. Expect more people in public areas during the tour. A private tour guide will accompany you during the sightseeing parts to help answer questions and provide local context.
