Puebla is nationally known for its mole, tacos, sandwiches, candies and fried masa snacks. On this tour you’ll taste many of the city’s signature foods as you move from street stalls to markets. Along the way you’ll feast on tacos árabes with smoky chipotle salsa — invented not far from the Zócalo — and try a crunchy pelona, a sandwich of shredded beef, Mexican cream and salsa served on fried bread. You’ll also enjoy a tasting of artisan candies.
You’ll visit La Acocota, Puebla’s oldest market, where you’ll learn about typical Mexican ingredients and sample native fruits. There you’ll also indulge in mole poblano, the spicy, chocolate-tinged sauce that the city is famous for. The tour includes a tasting of the cemita, Puebla’s most famous sandwich, made with pounded-thin, breaded steak, stringy quesillo, sweet chipotles and bitter pápalo herb on a lightly crunchy roll. Finally you’ll finish with a taste of an artisan liqueur, leaving you with a fuller appreciation of Puebla’s distinctive food scene.
