You'll spend time in a rural Chatino community on Oaxaca's coast, learning family recipes that have been passed down through generations. The setting is a chance to see daily life in these coastal communities and to learn about local culture and traditions as you move through the cooking process with your hosts.
You will prepare Oaxacan red mole, make tortillas by hand and assemble tamales using traditional techniques. Along the way, hosts will share the stories and methods tied to each dish. After cooking, you will sit down to share the meal with the local family, tasting the food you helped create while continuing to discover the rhythms of community life and customs in Oaxaca’s coastal towns.
