This is an on‑demand, smartphone‑guided haunted walking tour of Boston that begins at 10 1/2 Beacon Street. You press play in the WalknTours app, put your phone in your pocket and follow turn‑by‑turn directions as you move through the city. It’s best experienced with headphones; speakers can be used but aren’t recommended. The tour is self‑guided, so you can go anytime and set your own pace.
Along the way you’ll encounter over eight ghostly sites and hear the stories behind them. Highlights include the most haunted hotel in New England, the old hanging tree where the last witch of Boston was hung, a haunted subway, two haunted burial grounds (including the Granary Burial Ground and the Central Burial Ground), Nathaniel Hawthorne’s old haunt, the haunted theatre and more. Many of these places have opening hours — the Granary and Central burial grounds are among those noted — and hotels and theatres may be closed or have limited access because of COVID. The tour stays outside these locations and does not include entry.
