Meru National Park is one of the best places in Kenya to see Rhinos in the wilderness. At last count, Rhino Sanctuary was home to 34 black and 70 white rhinos.
The Park is especially associated with Elsa the Lioness and the film Born Free, a 1966 Technicolor British drama film starring Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers as Joy and George Adamson, a real-life couple who raised Elsa, an orphaned lion cub, to adulthood. Meru National Park is the home of many other animals as well, including cheetah, hippo, zebra, giraffe, hartebeest, oryx, oribi, waterbuck, … and abundant birdlife.
